My 3G went through the wash about a year ago. Can't blame anyone but myself. At least the wife was doing her duties. I can definitely understand and am empathetic to the situation.

It hurt me deeply! Sorry man that just sucks. Hope you can sell it for parts like the two front and back glass plates for $150!

Dude, I feel so bad I cried and it shorted the keyboard on my MBP. I will see you at the Apple store.

This is why I never wash my sheets or my clothes for that matter.

Zero chance of getting any electronics in the wash.

It is really the only safe way to go.

...Always check your pockets before putting your first load to wash. I check for 3 things: keys, wallet and phone.
....so if you have a 4th thing (say a check from work) you go ahead a wash it since it wasn't on the list?:D

If you're feeling brave, you could take it apart (as per ifixit.com). Put it in a roasting tine on a bed of uncooked rice, cover with more rice, don't garnish and bake for 4 hours at 50oC (battery won't enjoy being in the oven though, it may explode so just put it in a bowl of rice for a few days).

Although you could just do what you're doing and pay $200 for a replacement...

Hopefully you were washing your sheets cause they got dirty last night. Still sucks, but at least it's some consolation

I washed my 3GS last December. Got home and the wife was doing the laundry and I wanted my pants washed. Gave them to her. About 10 minutes later I realized my wallet was in the pocket. The front loader wouldn't pause or open, so I had to let it run. Finally got it open and started pulling out things that were in my wallet when my hand found an iPhone. :( I tried the rice and all that. No dice. The next morning I went to the mall and got a new iPhone for $199 and a new wallet (that part was actually long overdue...)

Left my iPhone on my bed and forgot when I ripped my sheets off to through them in the washer. About 20 mins into it I realized what happened. The phone is dead and I will be taking it to Apple tomorrow to pay $200 for it to be replaced.:(

Had you paid the 80 bucks to worth avenue for the insurance youd be paying nothing!

too bad, never understood people who resisted this concept and for this very reason. oh well maybe next time you will look into this!

Try soaking it in rubbing alcohol and leaving it in a bag of uncooked rice overnight. Eitherway...that sucks man. :(

Just try this. I've heard of iPhones and iPods being revived like Jesus on Easter Sunday with this two fold technique. It's worth a shot.

And remember to use high percentage of rubbing alcohol or Bacardi 151. heh

Washed Mine Too

Washed my iPhone 4 in the washing machine. Found it the next morning at the bottom of the washer. So, I vacuumed out the ports. Put in a bag of uncooked brown rice (all I had), then put it on the dash of my pick up truck that was sitting in the sun. Left for work in the morning and came home that afternoon. The phone got very hot, hotter than I expected. I let it cool, pressed the power button, nothing. But when I hooked it to the computer, it came to life. At first the microphone was weak, but that seems to be getting better each day. This is day three, and I've been putting it a bag with silica gel desiccant every night. Other than the microphone, it's working fine. In retrospect, I would not have put it in the sun, because it got very hot. And I think the silica gel would be better than rice, but it was all I had at the time. It's pretty incredible to me that the phone is working at all. It seems like if it will do this, it wouldn't be too hard to make the iPhone 4 waterproof.

Also take the back off to let it dry out (only two screws). Alcohol should help also (but you may have to drink the stuff). :D

I laughed at the headline, but am very sorry to hear your story.

On a side note, I can't help but feel that this could have been prevented. Where are the dish-washer safe cases?

Hmm, interesting that you wash your bed sheets with your dishes... interesting :p
