I'm considering closing this account for a number of reasons, main being I feel I am spending too much time scrolling through looking for something to post and I don't like that. But before I commit to doing that, I had a few questions about closure. First, there are still some useful resources on the forums I will be looking at from time to time and I do like to read the archives as well. But I despise the way MR looks when logged out, the content only taking up half of the space it should with the "Register on MacRumors" text to the side. So, the question is once the account is "cancelled" is it still possible for me to log into it in order to circumvent the above issue? Or, since I have never been suspended I don't know if that's how suspension works, in that case are you willing to just suspend someone on request? In relation to suspension, if you are willing to do so is it possible to use that as a temporary break or is account closure a one-time permanent system with no recourse?

These may seem like weird questions but just because I wish to step away from the community does not mean there aren't useful resources to be accessed on the site, and I'd prefer not to be hampered in the latter by my choice in the former.

If your account is cancelled, you wont be able to login.

If you do cancel, you can alway ask for the account to be reactivated.

Here is a FAQ explaining how we close accounts.

Ah, I was under the impression that once an account's status was Cancelled, that was the "nuclear" option and it was unable to be retrieved. Always good to have this option IMO, sometimes it's very difficult for people to just take breaks from these platforms without some form of intermediary between them and logging in.

You can block the site in your web browsers. Possibly your router. That’ll make it more annoying to go to. Probably will work better than canceling the account. As you can still browse the site easily. If you cancel your account. But black listing it will force you to think twice before browsing.

Also make your password impossible to remember. Then store it in a text file. Never storing in a password manager. If when tempted to login. If you only do so through private browsing. You’ll have to look up the password every time.

basically setting hurdles. To make you think again. If that isn’t enough for your willpower to take over. Then I doubt canceling will help. Since you can still browse and make a new account.
