For me problem solved, now that my serial is where it must be... I have configured correctly my iCloud account.

Good luck!

Mine is working now as well but only after I was able to check in first with the iMac. I'll have to spend a moment studying how all of this works.

It seems that if you only have one device where the serial number was lost due to a repair this could be a tricky problem to solve.

Great. An authorized service center just replaced my logic board, after messing up the repair the first time. Do I want to even look and see if they screwed up again and failed to flash the correct serial number?

also had the logic board issue, they forgot to flash the serial number. Went in today and had it done, now icloud is working fine

Family Computer Limit Reached

I created iCloud account for my parent, sister and myself on our iMac yesterday. I had only had 3 more @me.com accounts to go when I got the "Account Limit Reached" message.

Is there anyway around this or should I have the remaining accounts created on another computer (i.e. public computer, Macbook Pro, ect)?

What an arbitrary limit

From some google research, it looks like the apple techs use a disc called "Blank Board Serializer" to copy the serial number from a blank board. Unfortunately, it is only available to download from some restricted apple site, and not to ordinary users like me, instead I am suppose to go to a repair shop (again....)

Same but resolved

Hello guys

Just to let you know that i had the same problem with my serial number missing... I worked it out using a soft called blank board serializer which allow to put back your serial number on your computer.
Now everything is working fine for me. You can find it on torrents website if you are looking for it.

Good luck!

Would anyone recommend that I use this method to create additional iCloud accounts despite having a serial number?

Thanks

Seems like the serial number missing is the problem and if it really is, that has to be the stupidest reason even if it was the only way for Apple to limit activations. Surely Apple would realize that there are users out there that would have this problem. Not impressed. Now I have to go find a Mac with Lion and activate that way and hopefully it will by pass the serial number problem after everything is set up.

If the logic board already has a serial number this software will not allow you to change it.

I would love to know what apple's solution will be to those who buy a used computer/iPhone/iPad/iPod touch and then want to set up a .me icloud account, just to find out they can't.

My only conceris how old the disc is, it may not work on more recient thunderbolt equipped macs.

Re-flashed my Mac with my serial number and now iCloud is sort of set up (still can't get my e-mail to work. For some reason it's not using my .Mac address.) Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.

I am having the same issue. Created three email addresses for my family and done. Now I cannot create more and get this error.

MBP Early 2011.

Can I create more addresses on my iPad?

It worked with my mid 2009 macbook pro... Don't know if it would work on more recent machines... I guess it won't let you enter the serial if the motherboard is not supported...

This device is no longer eligible for creating an Apple ID

Please send me the information and instructions on how to correct this problem.

My email is lnared at cinci dot rr dot com

Thanks!
