Even though my 2015 Air does not have the retina display, I make do without it quite well. I am currently running 1680x1050 resolution settings on my Air without any issue. It does everything I need and I have no complaints. I love that it has a keyboard that won't fail and had multiple ports. I like that I can expand the storage drive to something more than 512GB if I choose. I will continue using my 2015 Air for most things.

If the need should ever arise where I need to use retina then I will grab my 15inch retina MBP but these days, I rarely grab this laptop when what I need to do is easily handled using my fully spec'd BTO 11 inch or 13 inch Air.

My 2013 11" i7/8gb/512gb MacBook Air is still my primary all-purpose computer. Haven't been motivated to replace it with a newer model yet since it still does what I need. Gave my daughter's family a 2018 base model MacBook Air last Christmas however, and they all love it.

I've used a lot of portable Macs over the years, and the 2010-2019 iteration of the MacBook Air is the most resilient, and most dependable Mac I've ever used. The size and weight of the 11" was perfect for me, and I was so sad to see it go back in 2015. My current daily driver is a 2013 11", and it hasn't skipped a beat, even though I've taken it with me around Asia. I still have my original 11" 2010 MacBook Air, and it still works like a champ.

My new frontline Mac is a Apple Store refurb 2017 13". My only regret is that Apple's stopped selling these fantastic machines, especially my beloved 11".

I just picked up a 2015 Air in perfect condition with 200 cycles for only $325. I calibrated the display and it's not too bad. I am used to Windows more so and did not want to spend a lot to experiment with a Mac. So far it is fast and very responsive, even with 4 GB Ram.

My first MacBook was a 2010 Pro. Then a 2012 Pro I maxed out.

Felt video card was slowing me down and grabbed a damaged 13” AIR.

Missed the better screen and resolution.

Fast forward few years and my work laptop is 2017 touchbar. I also have access to 11” Air for testing deployment, policies, etc and I’m quite surprised how well it is.

Without a crud buildup a 4GB 11” is great as a web surfer.

The only real successor to the classic MBA would be a ARM based MBA. That would be a modern interpretation of the MBA philosophy. Samsung already started that with its new ARM based Galaxy Book S and I hope Apple wouldn’t be too late for that party...

It was a good machine back in it's day, but it just became a dated relic after 2013 when high resolution displays became the norm. I never miss old tech & always move forward.

That being said, the new MacBook Air is gimped with a horrible Y-Series CPU and a woeful keyboard. Until Apple fixes this with a Ice Lake CPU and redesigned keyboard then the Air cannot be recommended at all.

Just ordered 2017 MBA 256/i5

First MacBook ever, I'll take all suggestions on first things to do.

TIA.

Couldn't pass up a chance to have mag-safe and the glowing logo. Sooo excited!!!

  1. Install Amphetamine
  2. Set up your dock (one thing I like that Apple doesn't enable by default is the icon magnification when you hover over the icon. It's configured in your doc settings. Depending how many apps are in your dock, I would definitely consider turning on magnification.
  3. Determine your cloud service of choice
Everything else is pretty much voluntary. The machines just work great.

I have two. A 2014 and 2015. Since purchasing them I have also had PC's and MBP with better displays, but none have stood the test of time like the MBA's. They are quality machines regardless of what's available now.

I'd sacrifice a flipping 8K display to get a laptop that works without issue and is dependable.

The old macbook air died in 2017 . the old Air 2017 - Present, never got updated

so the tittle should read (which you are a few years late)

R.I.P. The old school MacBook Air (October 20, 2010 - July 9, 2017)
