"accounts" users not visible

When logging in to my computer there are 3 usernames displayed but, when I open system preferences >> accounts , the users are not shown/ visible, so there is no way to delete them from the initial login display. How can I delete these users? They also don't appear in the "users" file.

Any ideas?

Does anyone have any ideas of how i can get rid of these user accounts?
