A restart worked for us luckily, very annoying issue, makes the macs so laggy they are unusable. (Didn't experience it before until this last update)

Just in time, for me to decline lol. 😂

Exactly my point.

had this on and off in all versions of catalina. It seems to be triggered if you're offline or on a very slow network when mail tries to sync/fetch/replicate/push. Once it happens, force quitting mail, then killing the daemon often will work.

There's a lot of stuff in the new OSs that break when you're not on cupertino-level terabit level connections they seem to be designing for

Hi, i've experienced the same problem and this helped me:
after shutdown, turn on computer and hold cmd+option+p+r together for about 20 s.
Full guide: resetting NVRAM or PRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063.

I'd lay dollars to donuts that it was the reboot and not the reset that did it.

Hear, hear, Note to Apple: I'm never going to Catalina, and I'm tired of you asking -- especially when the update now? window pops up at 3am. I'll probably update to MacOS 11 -- a few weeks after release. Could you please stop bugging me?

Big sur is better?

I've been having horrible performance issues with Mail and accountsd ever since upgrading to Catalina.
I had to set Mail to only fetch mail manually and just fetch new mail when I need to. Otherwise, Mail is completely unusable if I don't, and will take a big % of CPU much of the time. Maybe MacRumors will get Apple to address it.

Ah yes. It has returned...

honestly though, after holding off on updating from Mojave on my Mac pros until this summer my biggest issue are the changes to Time Machine.

before you could open up mail or contacts and then Time Machine to recover deleted emails or a few deleted contacts. Not anymore. If you need to recover a contact you need to use iCloud via a web browser and recover the most recent back up - no longer can you recover a single contact or just a few.

I found a workaround for the contacts issue. If you keep a copy of your contacts on your Mac as well as iCloud you can recover contacts with Time Machine. I posted a thread on this in the forum but essentially copy all of your contacts and save them in a vcf file. Then turn off iCloud contacts. This will create an “On My Mac” section. Import the contacts from the vcf file. Then re-enable iCloud contacts.

now you’ll have local contacts as well as iCloud contacts so you can recover any contacts that you deleted with Time Machine. I simply linked each of the contacts together so that each contact shows it listed as iCloud and on my Mac.

this hasn’t changed for Big Sur either. I honestly don’t know what is going on with Apple as Time Machine has always been my go to since day one. I don’t know why they removed the ability to restore deleted contacts and emails.

Semi-unrelated question, but is there a way to limit CPU speeds to prevent the fans from blasting? I sometimes encode video on my MacBook Pro but it’s not time-sensitive and I would prefer to have things stay quiet.

This is probably an Xcode library problem. Apple is in no hurry to fix problems on x86 platform. Probably works fine on their ARM desktops.

I did the Terminal solution and ended with the impossibility to log into iCloud or add any mail account to my computer. So it's not a great solution. Thankfully the Terminal Workaround moves and not delete the file Accounts4.sqlite and other related, so it's possible to restore them back to their folder and be able to log again to iCloud, but Apple should do something about it. My laptop ( MacBook Pro 16" ) was "burning" while these process was forcing the CPU. Dangerous ( and pretty sure that if that happens, Apple is going to was their hands, and not because of the COVID ).

Now help me figure out why my GPU runs at 100% ALL THE TIME.
iMac18,3 Radeon Pro 580 8 GB

I had this problem yesterday after updating to 10.15.7. Logging out and logging back in to iCloud fixed it.

Nothing like buying a tricked out MBP and having it "reduced to rubble" by Apple's lack of attention. I long for the days when Apple products simply "just worked". Never again will I spend top dollar on an Apple laptop computer, or for that matter, any of their other products.

I didn’t know about this as I’m running Mojave on my iMac and Big Sur on my MBP.

what is going on at Apple?? This plus battery drain issues on ios14 and watchOS 7 ... this is not good

This happened to me Monday on my 2018 15" running 10.5.6. CPU usage for Accountsd ran up to over 700%.
Restart didn't help, it just kind of went away through the day. Hadn't seen this before and haven't seen it since.

The worst is that Apple does not seem to care one bit. If Apple were just to acknowledges, communicate and address issues promptly, things would be okay for me. My experience is that they are slow, quiet and hardly ever fix anything. If they do, they will only do so for some upcoming release, forcing everyone to update. Mismanagement if you ask me. One might expect more from one of the richest companies. I guess money makes blind. And deaf. And Stupid?

Good to see I'm not the only one experiencing this as of today. Macbook Pro 2020 here.

"Small number of users" is a standard issue corporate PR line meaning "it's a common bug we didn't test for"
