I have a 2015-era wireless magic keyboard and trackpad which I use with my MacBook Pro 2015 in clamshell mode.

I'm about to get a 2021 MacBook Pro M1, and am considering getting the newest magic keyboard and trackpad.

My question is - how is the accuracy and performance of the trackpad compared to the older one?

I notice the newer ones look less metal and more plastic which might mean poorer build quality and feel. I'm also resigned to a worse keyboard since the 2015 golden age.

Appreciate your thoughts - especially if you have actual experience of both.

I have used Magic Trackpads since 2010. Having spent plenty of time with the old and now newer versions, they are identical in feel, quality, and usage. The only difference that is noticeable (and makes the newer ones better) is that they are haptic and can be clicked anywhere. The old ones had a diving board mechanism, so the higher up you click, the harder the press needed to be. The new ones can be used on softer surfaces, such as bed, couch, your leg, and it works because the whole base of the trackpad is "the button."

I second this! In my opinion the new versions feel much better than the original because of the haptic click mechanism. The lightning charge port and built-in battery are also a very nice touch.

I'm trying to get the old (1st-gen) trackpad to work with my new 16" M1Max. No dice. Is it even possible? Hard to find info on this.

edit: nm, just as I had posted this it finally connected...
