When I used to use a Windows PC way back... there was a program I used to record music and lay tracks, rearrange and all.

It was called Acid PRO.

Is there a free or not so expensive alternative to Acid PRO for Macintosh?

I've talked to people, and they say that Macs are great for recording and making music, but I'm yet to see why.

Help?

Love,
Cole

Seeing as Acid Pro isn't free or inexpensive, the comparable alternatives for Mac are also pro level commercial programs

Abelton Live! is a program that excels at loop playback under real-time control

Propellerheads Reason is a complete music production studio (with the exception of sampling) and ReCycle is a loop-production tool a la Acid.

GarageBand is adept at combining loops with other material

Yowstar G is a loop mixing program

With my educational discount, Soundtrack PRO is looking quite nice.

It has multitrack recording right?

Also, it looks like this is a new product, is it shipping yet, or at local Apple stores?
