iPhone 15 Pro action button silent toggle wakes display?

hi so i don’t know if i remember correct but i am on 17.4 and was it always the case that the action button also turns on the display if you switch between silent and ringer?

Just tested my 15 PM on 17.4 and my display does not turn on.
