So MLOC installs OCLP root patches? I erased both boot drives and did a clean install of Mojave on the SATA SSD where OC is located and a clean install of Monterey on the PCIe SSD using MLOC. It's like the ghost of OCLP past coming back to haunt me. 🙂

No, you had not really installed clean 🙂 There are residues of oclp in. Guess in Application Support is the patcher app and some daemon (its really its name) is watching for oclp updates.

I installed on a different drive as a test, and everything (wifi & bluetooth) works fine. After the auto patch, everything responds quickly. However, the hardware acceleration for H.264 and H.265 is not enabled. Since this was installed on a test drive, it's not a big deal. I am currently investigating the Hardware Acceleration issue. My advice would be to wait if you are installing it on a workhorse computer until more data is available.

As AVX support is needed since Ventura everything is random. The OS with its Apps works, but every App could be compiled with the need of AVX and can crash.

So its highly experimental or for a decent use in a controlled situation. Everything but a daily driver for all needs.

I am using a 2012 Mac Pro 5,1. Regarding the performance of Sonoma for basic computer activities, it's nice. However, there is no hardware acceleration. This means if you are encoding or rendering video, I would suggest waiting for the moment. I have been using this Wi-Fi/Bluetooth PCI-E card and it is also detected by Monterrey and Ventura. So there is nothing gained or lost in that aspect. The graphics card is an AMD Vega 64 with Pixlas Mod. I believe people who actually want to use their computers for work should hold off on this upgrade and wait for Martin Lo's opinion. But if you have a spare drive lying around and simply want to experiment, all I can say is that it won't harm your computer.

Please try BetterDisplay to set the refresh rate. Free version is good enough.

Thanks, this is a very neat application. Unfortunately I'm only able to get 120hz through HDMI 2.1 if it sets the resolution of the monitor to 1080p, DisplayPort won't even let me go 120hz with it. Any ideas?

Sure it's not OS's limitation, I am using 144Hz in Monterey now (so far, all macOS I tested can go 144Hz with my Radeon VII). I suspect that's either the Navi driver's issue. Or somehow the monitor cannot pass all supported mode to macOS.

I am with Monterey for a while now, but from memory, the USB support in Big Sur is very normal. We don't even need a hub to connect USB 1.1 device.

If whenever you have any USB input device removed, then all other connecting USB devices fail. Then this is absolutely abnormal.

It's hard to know what's wrong here, but if you can perform a clean Monterey installation, then I suggest you go that way, unpatched Monterey works well with upgraded BT/wifi card (assuming you need them, otherwise, you can ignore them) on cMP. And all you need to have is just a USB 2.0 / 3.0 hub in case you need to connect any USB 1.1 device after boot to desktop.

i can confirm this. i have a wired mac keyboard plugged into the front USB outlet of my 5.1, and a wired mac mouse daisychained through the keyboard. they work flawless and show up as 1,5 MBit/s in the system profiler.

that's strange – i can hot (un)plug the USB 1.1 keyboard from the running system with no issues.

slightly OT: running OC solved another issue: many newer large capacity HDD will not load after a warm reboot on native macOS up to 10.14; they only load after a cold restart. however, with OC, i can eject such a HDD, do a warm reboot and they load without hiccups. i usually exclude these mass storage drives from booting automatically, yet they are visible as non-activated in disk utility. that is a very welcome side-effect of your OC packages… thanks for solving an issue you probably weren't even aware of ;-)

Apple Wired keyboard with Numeric keypad have a USB hub and effectively bypass the problems of OHCI removal after Catalina.

When you run BigSur or newer macOS releases and connect anything directly to the Mac Pro own USB ports, the problems arise. Connecting and disconnecting the Apple Wired keyboard with Numeric Keypad to the Mac Pro will not trigger the issue, test your mouse or a USB key directly to the Mac Pro USB ports instead.

Did you mod the OC config (enable VMM, disable SMBIOS spoofing) to make the cMP can receive Monterey update?

is it necessary, to mod the config plist when I have downloaded bevor the full installer ? I made before with the OPLP. a Full InstallerStick with 12.7.1. So , I mean it is much simpler - Or am I wrong ?
