Going to get the simless iPhone XS Max, first time buying a simless phone, do I just call or text T-mobile to activate?

So this phone won't be available next week?

So this phone model won't be available for delivery next week?
Yes, the phones will be available. The eSIM functionality won't be immediately available, if I recall Apple's keynote correctly.

Edit: Here's the support article for Dual SIM / eSIM functionality:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209044

Under the What You Need section:

- A iPhone Xs or iPhone Xs Max with an update to iOS 12 coming later this year

Without the eSim, then I would just put my own T-mobile sim to activate?

Just put your current sim in until they activate esims at a later date.
Ok, got it, was somehow thinking it did not have a sim slot at all.
