So im pretty sure i messed up. I bought a gophone micro simcard and activated it on at&t. I used the iphones imei number. What do I do to get the service on my phone now.

I don't know what world your coming from but AT&T doesn't care if you use your iPhone on the GoPhone service anymore....it was a thing of the past
probobaly the 4S is not from AT&T or simply not unlocked.
If it is AT&T 4S then maybe you didn't refill your account idk really
is it an AT&T iPhone 4S? if not is it unlocked? etc etc etc
sometimes you have to wait a few minutes for it to boot up the first time, does the sim work w other phones?
Im pretty positive its at&t because the person that last had this phone had at&t sim card. But how do i tell for sure. I went to carrier and it said Not Available. Also how would i tell if its unlocked or not?

ATT gophone should be totally plug and play if the phone is unlocked or locked to ATT and the SIM is activated
you should get a SIM unsupported or some error message if its locked
if an unactivated SIM is in the phone i believe it says 'no service' at the top left
if it says 'searching' you have a problem too, in my experience persistant 'searching' is a problem with the iphone itself and I had the device swapped under warranty

Sorry for the stupid questions but how do I go about activating the sim card. Because it says no service.

ATT does this by affiliating it with your account, sounds like you need to call/ go to ATT
