Activation at At&t store

So for those who got the 3G iphone at the apple store, what did they do to activate it anything, in the store, I see picture of people taking it out at home, did you have a sign a paper or anything?? Or did you just purchase it and were told to do it at home. Sorry if this has been asked I didn't see it..
