Activation Experience? iTunes/ATT capacity on June 29.

So, my question is will iTunes and the ATT network be able to handle the potentially large number of registrations on the evening of June 29? Once we get our iPhones on Friday or over the weekend, will we crash their capacity?

Any ideas?

I'm betting by about 7:15 the 3 minute process displayed in the video will become and 30 plus minute ordeal with ATT at the helm.

Now if they are using Apple servers to run the ATT process, thats another story.

We should all coordinate a time to activate our phones on Friday. What'd ya say we all go after work and get phones around 6ish. Then head home and all activate our phones between 7 and 10 that evening.....

Seriously though, even if there are 200K phones sold tomorrow, Apple definitely has the bandwidth to serve up a website 200K times over 4 hours. Now the credit check is another matter. It will be interesting to see how long that part of the application takes b/c it's probably handled by a 3rd party not as accustomed to serving so many requests.

Yes, Apple may have the server capability to handle our hits, but I assume their servers have to connect to AT&T to get access to the new and current customer database. Maybe AT&T is running everything on Xserves? 😉
