I'm not sure if people are talking about carrier activation with the cell service. If you are I ran into the same problem a few days ago. You just have to go to Settings -> General -> Reset Network Settings .. Restart the phone and everything should activate and hook up with your network. You will have to reenter your wifi passwords but oh well at least the phone will work.

no difference between iTunes and va WiFi, it keeps showing errors. Lol atleast they could improve activation servers, because now iPhone is useless :D

I didn't mean would one way work (they both aren't) but if one way was better to do than the other. It sounds like it makes no difference which way you go once you are able to get through.

No this happens on my Wifi iPad, i'm assuming it's activation against Apple's server for iTunes or some kind of provisioning after you install the new firmware.

I was unaware that this issue is caused by the new OS. Oh, it isn't? Well then....

I didn't say that. I concluded it may be a result of messing with stuff like this the second it comes out when millions of bored kids are sitting at their local Star Bucks "updating" their toys.

I need my connectivity so I won't do anything until the dust has settled and normal people can confirm that everything still works as it should. I may not do anything at all given that this is mostly for looks (meh) and added features are not very useful to me. Major issues have not been addressed. So.

Having the same problem. Must've clicked 'retry' like 50 times already. My region is probably low priority anyway.

I've been trying to activate it through itunes and from my phone...
Both are a no go so far.

Keeps telling me that network connection is lost.

this is not a carrier activation thing, more like the entire phone

I thought I was safe as I was upgrading. Got an Error Code and had to do factory clean restore.

So frustrated right now!

I am stuck int he welcome screen on the activation step, iTunes does nothing and I keep hitting try again with no avail!

... 3D printing a rig to hit 'Try Again' while I get on with my life...

I got it to download but after I click Install now and I get the "Verifying Update..." for a few minutes I get this error message:

Software Update is not available at this time. Try again later.

Was almost complete on verifying update and having it all be done when iTunes crashed. Grr. Now in DFU mode, asked to restore, half way thru that iTunes crashes again. Hope this is all fixed before my flight in the morning....

Wow I feel really bad for everyone. Honestly that is unacceptable to expect someone to be without their phone because a server is down/overloaded. The phone should at least be able to boot to an emergency mode or something. Just seems like bad planning because this probably won't get resolved till 10pm est when the traffic dies down. Good luck everyone and I hope iOS 7 meets your expectations when you finally get it installed.

The best part about all this....

The "Could not Activate iPhone" screen says to go to apple.com/support and upon doing so and navigating the following pictures:

How are you suppose to get a text or email on the device that isn't activated?
I can't get past the Activate screen in the initial setup?

So, this is one of those "I should have hopped on MacRumors before I did stuff" moments for me. I managed to get iOS 7 installed, and restored from an iTunes backup. For some reason a ton of my apps were missing (probably should have done a sync before my backup) so I decided that I would try wiping it clean and restoring from the iCloud backup the phone made last night. Here I am with everyone else stuck at activation. IT WAS WORKING FINE, and then I went and screwed it up. Fun times.
