Will this be charged to my account upon activation of the 3G or will I have to pay it with my CC in addition to the iphone?hh

just dial 611 on your phone (or call the at&t customer service line -- same thing) and ask for the activation fee to be waived. they will usually go ahead and do this for you.

I will have to give that a try. The worst that can happen is still pay the required fee. Thanks!

I will be attempting to get it waived as well. Its a pitiful nickel & dime move. AT&T (and any cell phone company that) provides a service to its customers, we shouldn't have to pay to be a customer.

Activation Fee $36 : If your a new customer, you can often time get this waived at the AT&T COR store when your activating your phone.

Upgrade Fee $18: You could get this waived at the time or call in to get it waived later.

My God they've got a nerve.

They charge a fee for something the know that they don't really have the right to, hence refund on request, counting on the fact that the majority of people don't know or are to intimidated to ask for they money back.

You can even do 1 better and ask for a 50.00 credit, and they will sometimes give it to you. I have done this in the past. Just ask nicely.

I really hope this is true. Since I will be new to AT&T maybe when I go to buy my iPhone if I tell them I switched from Verizon they'll take off the activation fee.

Are they doing the fee at apple stores? I dont remember hearing about it.

As for them taking away the activation... do we do it before or after we purchase it? im going to call them in a bit about rollover minutes, so if you can do the activation elimination before purchase (and this is a tried and true method (what do you even say?)) i will give it a shot.

<shameless plug>
If you are a new customer, make sure to use a "Referral" so that you can get $25 in case you didn't see the other thread about it. The $25 referral almost offsets the activation fee.

By the way, I have 9 of these referrals to give out (I get $25, you get $25); just PM me with your name and email, and I will send you the referral.

any one ballsy enough to ask att to waive it? if so let us know what their response is.

I did it on monday, and it didn't take a lot of balls. Just call then and say "I'm not paying that fee," and they'll wave it. Which do think matters more to them, 1 time $18 fee or $199+~$90 per month for 24 months.

I called ATT today just to have them explain my Bill to me because there were all kinds of charges on there I did not understand. Without asking the lady said she would waive my activation fee's. I had one for 36$ and one for 26$ for the second line on the family plan. By the time her and I was done talking my first Phone bill which is usually the highest one you will get was reduced by 72$.

If you have not called ATT to get that activation Fee waived you better get on it, save yourself 36$ and more if you have more than one iPhone.

So, they don't ask on what grounds do you want to waive it or anything?

I didn't realize that was optional.

I bought my phone on the release date and because of the troubles with activation I was sent home to activate the phone myself. I told them I shouldn't be charged an activation fee because of all the problems they had on that day and they agreed and removed the fee.
