No. They'll redirect people to any number of server services, cloud services, etc., running on any number of operating systems, like people use Apple products as clients with every day.

Os x server hack?

Being that this appliance has a Nelam processor, can OSX server be installed on this? Or can you use a Mac Mini server as a head on this unit?

a 2U will also give you more expansion slots so you can do multiple HBA's, 10gig-e card

A 1U box will give you two PCIe slots into which you can install two dual-port 10Gb FCoE HBAs. Or even one dual-port 10GbE and one dual-port 4Gb FC.

The proportion of applications either of those options aren't overkill (*massive* overkill in the case of 4x10Gb FCoE) for is insignificant. Heck, most environments would barely stretch the 4x1GbE the average server has onboard these days, even if they were using iSCSI for storage.
