What can we say, you're a real standup kinda guy, Mike. Its fairly early (8:20-ish) and yet as I look at my apple watch, i've already have 5 standing hours on my watch

Here's why the activity app is so frustrating, I have has of this morning 0 stands, even though I've been up since 6:00am, its now almost 8:00am and the watch is bugging me to stand, even though I've been standing up moving around a lot, such as putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
The inconsistency of this, is quite frustrating. I can spend all day moving around walking and it records zero exercise minutes (even with it set to exercise), but I walk to the subway station and my office and I have 15 minutes of exercise
Today, I'm working from home, and I've been busy not just sitting at my desk and I have nada, zip, zilch nothing.
Yeah, I've gotten those reminders as wellI have got reminders to stand while doing a 3 mile hike in the woods.

I couldn't agree more. There are times it buzzes me to stand, and I walk/run around for 10 minutes and it still doesn't give me my stand hour. It makes me so mad!
Same here on the inconsistencies, I work from home, and sometimes will sit for 3 hours straight (I know that isn't the healthiest) and it will say I've stood up more than once even though I didn't. I'd be curious to see what the algorithm is that determines if you are standing up, if its based on movement, heart rate, elevation, or some combination of those. Perhaps stretching while you are sitting raises the watch so it thinks it's higher up, and heart going up with the stretch is like that when you stand up.Here's why the activity app is so frustrating, I have has of this morning 0 stands, even though I've been up since 6:00am, its now almost 8:00am and the watch is bugging me to stand, even though I've been standing up moving around a lot, such as putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher.

I just swing my arm back and forth while laying in the Lazy-Boy recliner! Works great for those few extra steps needed.
This is exactly it. The "stand" ring has nothing to do with standing. What actually registers as a "stand" is in fact 30 seconds of continual watch movement. There has been many times I too have been active for an hour but have the stand notification go off at 10 to the hour. The solution is to just move my arm for the 30 seconds and then complain that the weather widget shows "--" until I swipe left or right to change faces. It worked fine in WatchOS 3 and I'm sure it will never be fixed in 4 (plus being on S0, I'll never get the fix). Annoying.
I’ve stared at my watch in the morning while doing this. It takes between 20-45 seconds to register stand for that hour. I do arm curls at my elbow, not my whole arm.I just swing my arm back and forth while laying in the Lazy-Boy recliner! Works great for those few extra steps needed.

I’ve done it that way lying in bed. I’ve also done this on road trips, so sitting for the entire hour.It depends on how many steps you missed that hour.
