Traveling The World
Hey,

So just watched the guided tours of the Activty App and what I didn't realise that the MOVE Goal isn't based on Steps but the calories.

So annoying! I hope this changes pretty quickly. I'd wish you'd be able to set a Steps goal. ie. 8,000 steps a day, and use that for the MOVE goal. Recently I've been hitting about 10,000 steps a day with a combination of running and walking, but how can I really set a calorie goal if some days I don't run.

Am I the only one disappoint that this isn't a STEP "Move" Goal.

Possibly, I don't care for a step goal. It seems rather arbitrary to me, doesn't take into account the effort you took for that step. I'd rather a definitive metric like energy expenditure which I can than directly compare to my calorie intake.

I think STEP goal is just too abstract

Funny you should say that. For me, it feels like step or distance is concrete, as in something you can actually count or measure, and calorie is abstract, because it's something you have to calculate.

Yeah but I don't know what 3000 steps mean while I know perfectly what 300 calorie burnt mean for my body. :)

I believe the calories estimate takes into account not just the number of steps taken but also how fast you walked, whether you walked uphill or upstairs, etc. I wonder whether the body weight (from the Health app) goes into the calculation as well.

'Steps' doesn't mean anything unless you know whether it was walking across the room or going for a high-cardio run.

And I have no idea what 300 calories mean, and I don't really care. But I know how I feel the day after I walk 5000 steps, as opposed to a day where I walk only a 1000.

Point is, it's better if users have a choice of which metric to use when setting up goals.

This Activity app seems to be more complex the more I read about it! I'm excited for it.
