Hello

I'm new to mac. When I open activity monitor from the dock, it opens fine. Then when I minimize it, it goes back to the dock. However, when i click on the activity monitor icon again to open it, nothing shows up? How do I get it to reopen once I minimize it?

edit: when i right click the activity monitor icon, I see a black diamond next to "Activity Monitor (All processes) instead of a check mark? Is this the problem?

Right click on the Dock icon, then left click on the ""Activity Monitor (All processes)" or right-click and select Monitors > Show Activity Monitor.

Right click on the Dock icon, then left click on the ""Activity Monitor (All processes)"

i know doing that will bring back the activity monitor window. However, how do I get it to open by just clicking the icon itself

Don't use Minimize. It only applies to a window.

Use the "Hide Activity Monitor" menu-item under the Activity Monitor menu. This is also available by right-clicking its Dock icon and choosing "Hide", or the keystroke ⌘H when Activity Monitor is active.

The above applies to essentially all applications. That is, "Minimize" only applies to windows, "Hide APP_NAME_HERE" is under the APP_NAME_HERE menu with a keystroke ⌘H, and the "Hide" menu item is available by right-clicking the app's Dock icon.
