Activity Monitor Icon Missing

I have recently tried changing the Activity Monitor Icon by using Candybar, for some reason Candybar does not have a Activity monitor in the menu,

I have than went to Activity monitor application which is on the desktop and clicked on " show package contents" + "resources" and dragged the original activity monitor icon to a random folder and dragged a new icon into the resources folder. I logged out and logged back in and now the icon did now show up , there is a application icon now.

I have dragged the new icon out and put the old one back in the folder to see if it would go back to its original icon and now it does not go back to how it was in the first place, so pretty much no icon exists but only a application icon shows but the program does open up.



What do I do ? I am new to Mac/Osx and am trying to learn new things and by learning I did mess up on this



I tried searching on the web for a answer but no luck.

Another thing I dont understand is why I could not see a Activity Monitor Icon in the CandyBar program, I am not sure how to change the Icon or how people change it or why they have modified activity monitor icons is you cant change it .

I am hoping I can fix the problem I am having , I have been going through this forum or about a week now for hours and hours and notices real helpful people on this site so I did join to get find some answers from you all.

I just checked CandyBar on my MacBook and Activity Monitor does show in the list for me. Not sure why it doesn't for you you. Did you move the Activity Monitor application to somewhere besides the Applications folder?

I would advise against messing around in the "package contents" in the future. Too easy to mess things up as you have learned. I had a similar problem in the past after messing with an app and afterwards I had to repair permissions on the drive to get the program to work properly again. Try going to Disk Utility and repairing permissions to see if that gets Activity Monitor back to its original state for you.

For manually changing icons, the preferred way to do it is usually by right-clicking the app and then selecting Get Info. From this window copy the icon you want to use from wherever and then paste it into the small icon area at the top left of the Get Info window. Click once on the existing icon so it highlights it and then paste the new one in (Control+V).

I have tried the the options you mentioned and the 3rd one worked.
