Having read with some interest about the activity monitor, I eagerly browsed into my apps\utilities folder and tried to fire it up. Not sure what I'm missing but it looks as if it's initializing and then just goes away.

I tried the fairly useless macrumors search and then google but didn't get any hits for my particular problem. The one thing I'm wondering about is a widget that I downloaded to monitor core temps - could it be interfering with the activity monitor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what I discovered here but I ctrl clicked the app and then looked through the package contents I then double clicked on the application monitor icon located in the mac os-x folder and got the following message in Terminal:

Last login: Thu Dec 28 12:25:04 on console
Welcome to Darwin!
/Applications/Utilities/Activity\ Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/Activity\ Monitor; exit
rex-hyltons-computer:~ rexhylton$ /Applications/Utilities/Activity\ Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/Activity\ Monitor; exit
2006-12-28 12:26:29.089 Activity Monitor[227] The tool is not setuid root - please repair the privileges
logout
[Process completed]

EDIT: Irritatingly - once again I have figured it out. I repaired permissions and it's working fine now. Can someone explain how the permissions get buggered up in the 1st place?
