Activity Sharing Update Frequency

How often does Activity Sharing on the Apple Watch update? My father and I share our activity, but I feel as though it doesn’t update in real time. This makes sense since this would murder battery, but I’d imagine there is a “fetch” frequency interval. Upon swiping down to refresh, I’m not sure that it updates either.

Any thoughts or insight?

If my wife completes a workout my watch dings before she gets back up the steps, same if I go for a run. It’s pretty much instant for the ones on our list. Never seen one not be instant myself.
