So one of the new features of iOS16 is supposed to be activity tracking with your phone even If you don't have an Apple Watch. I have now updated my OS and still no activity tracking....I did some quick googling and read somewhere that If you have an apple watch paired with your phone then can't use your iPhone to track activity when not wearing your watch. Clearly this must be a bug?? There are many times where I go for a quick walk but don't have my watch on. I want this activity to count!

I don't have a Watch and the activity tracking definitely works with just the phone. Is your phone listed as one of the data devices in the Health app? (Or Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices) That's where all my recorded data shows, and then is also reflected in the Fitness app. Does turning off your Watch make a difference? I'm not a watch wearer so I love this new feature.

I'm having issues. I unpaired my old watch (broken) but got an error message saying it might not be fully upaired? Not sure what else to do.

Just checked health and steps are tracking in there, just not showing in fitness app

Turning it off does not make a difference. And yes even an old paired apple watch can cause this issue. Ideally though I still think you should be able to use your phone to track activity when you don't have your watch on you.
