Does anyone know the actual screen width and height of the iPhone mini 13? And compared to the iPhone 8? I know the overall difference is 4.7 to 5.4, but the iPhone 13 mini phone is listed at slightly more narrow than the iPhone 8 (my current model). Does that mean the screen is more narrow as well?

you can see the size comparison here, it is actually smaller but with a bigger screen than the 8

Another member did research on this when the 12 Mini was released (cant remember their name), but it works out at approx 15% extra screen space when the curved corners and notch are taken into account. This may not sound a lot, but when combined with the 1080p 476 ppi screen resolution you are getting a better overall experience. Also the taller screen is really good for scrolling through text.

Those measurements are of the body of the phone itself I think, not the screen.

But is the width of the display, and the keyboard while texting, bigger or smaller? That's what I'm curious about.

The width of the 5.4“ screen on the 12/13 mini is slightly LESS than the 4.7” screen on the 8/SE2. I just actually compared the 2 now side by side (My 12 mini and SE2). In terms of the keyboard, its hard to say but i make more typo errors on my 12 mini than my SE2 if am honest.

Both iphones have their Pros/Cons against each other, but overall the 12 mini is the better phone, with the 13 mini being even more refined (larger battery, smaller notch, brighter screen etc).

The display is actually smaller? That's what I was afraid of. The body of the phone is certainly a tad smaller than the 8.

Yes, the visible screen is *slightly* narrower on the Mini, about 58mm vs 59mm on the 8, but of course it is significantly taller, so the total screen real estate is quite a bit larger. I haven't noticed any difficulty typing.

Does it feel narrower? I'm about to upgrade from my iPhone 8, and was leaning to the 13 mini, but now I'm wondering if I should get the regular 13. I've always felt phones should be ever so slightly wider, not necessarily taller, and the fact that Apple made this new phone even more narrow is annoying.

I have a 7 and my wife has an 11pro. I have smaller hands. The 5.8 inch on 11 pro is totally the max screen size my hands could handle but it is annoying every time I try to use it one handed and then when I go back to my 7 (with smart battery case) it just feels soooo much better! I have been wanting 120hz for years and waiting all this time to upgrade (5 years) but now the time has come and there is only a 6.1 inch option for the 120hz. What a bummer!

Im either going to go for a 13 mini or just keep holding on to my 7. I know the 13 mini will be a nice upgrade but it won’t be 120hz! And the 13 pro would be awesome but I just don’t think it will feel right which is the most important to me!

Good luck with your upgrade choice! Im thinking if you want to go with a wider screen you’ll have to go with the 6.1 inch phones but I’d go and try them out in a store before buying. Im kind of afraid to just see the pro and it’s screen because I know I’m going to have some serious FOMO with that 120hz screen! I think I might need to not go to the store and just order a 13 mini and be done with it!

Why not go to a store and try it for yourself?

Personally I'm coming from an SE (2020) which has the same screen size as the 8. The Mini's screen doesn't feel narrower to me, just taller. As far as I'm concerned the Mini is pretty much the ideal balance between screen size and portability.

Actual screen dimensions:

SE2: 2.30" x 4.09"
mini: 2.27" x 4.92"

All you have to do is apply a bit of math to the specs provided by Apple.

Math!

2.30 v 2.27 seems just about nothing, huh? Though one poster above said he made more errors on the smaller screen.

iPhone Mini 13: 124.96mm x 57.67mm
iPhone 8: 104.05mm x 58.50mm

That works out to be a 18.7% larger overall screen (ie measuring total area) for the Mini over the SE2. But then have to factor in the area for the 13 mini’s notch, which by my measurement is approx .199 inches. So the total area of the 13 mini‘s display over the SE2 looks to be approx 16.6% larger.

All I know is the 13 Mini does not feel like a small phone to me after using it since it arrived on the 24th…and coming from a non-pro 11. It just doesn’t feel huge😊

Sounds about right. Apple says the 13 mini's notch area is about 0.24 sq. in.

All you have to do is take the display resolution and divide by the PPI, both of which are provided on Apple’s spec page.

Heycal, the 12 mini does not have a smaller screen, it just has slightly less width than SE2. Don't let what i said about the keyboard put you off, give the 12/13 mini a try, its a unique phone and there may not be another one next year.

It’s easier to refer to a site that has the dimensions readily available rather than calculating.
The problem is the numbers on that site are wrong. e.g. iPhone 12 Pro Max is 6.06" while the site says 6.08".

I had the iPhone 8 before going 12 mini and for some reason the screen is almost the same width but the phone itself its not and it just feels more cramped to typed compared to my iPhone 8. I got the 12 and the battery was way better and liked the screen size to. I currently have an iphone SE 2020 but Im not sure if to buy the mini again or just go with the normal size. I would love pro but its just to heavy and expensive. Really wish Apple would make an 5.8 iPhone with their new flat design, that would be the best of both worlds in my opinion.

If you didn’t get on with the 12 mini then you won’t get on with the 13 mini either. It is a touch narrower but mainly because of the design it feels a lot more slim than perhaps it actually is in comparison.

Did you try the 12 mini with a case?
