Why is it that every movie you want to watched requires a 30 sec ad upfront? I don't mind if it's every other or third or whatever but every single video it gets quite annoying.

Sometimes, I have a slight interest in the video but the ad just makes me say ef it and quickly click out of it.

Anyone else get annoyed? is there a way to stop embedded video ads?

When you say movie, are you referring to things like video shorts on CBS.com or something? Those DO get quite annoying, especially when it's the same ad every two minutes.

yes, news sites and sports sites are what I am referring to

Agreed, they are annoying. Unfortunately, it is the price you pay in order to have those clips available free of charge.

Beats paying for it.

If it wasn't a thread about the ads it would be a thread about the cost...

but the thing is is that just a few years back, these ads did not exist in these videos on the scale they do now

Money, money, money and money. They get most of their money from ads and as we all, they are greedy. If we paid their salary (we kinda do but it's longer story), then there would be no need for ads. They have to feed their family too so the money must be pulled from somewhere.

It's annoying but abijnk hit the head of the nail. If it wasn't about the ads, it would be about the cost.

TV stations make their money from ads. Someone has to sit there and convert all the videos to flash, plus all the hardware cost.

I'm actually quite tired of having to watch a movie of any length to get a news story. I'd much rather have it in a text version.

1. I have the sound turned off on my laptop at work most of the time. I don't want to turn it on just to hear a news story.

2. I can skim a text story in about 15 seconds and get just about everything out of it that I want. A video clip can easily be two minutes long, and there's no skimming without knowing what you're missing.
