Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good ad blocker for safari as I was using adblock plus but it was making safari use far to much resources and having a major impact on battery life.
In activity monitor it said safari was using 92% of the cpu and the fans were going crazy. I removed the extension and it's back to normal but I like safari so need an ad blocker.

Thanks all.

Just wish I could stop adds in YouTube
Everybody is having a tough time with that no matter what blocker you use. It seems YT has starting streaming the ads from their own servers, so there is no way to block the ads without also blocking the video you want to see.

For YouTube, another browser based on chromium (chrome, edge, brave, vivaldi, ...) with "uBlock Origin" extension.
For Safari, 1Blocker or Wipr aren't as good without Youtube. But you could buy Youtube premium ?

Buying YouTube Premium is not such a crazy evil idea. It gets you ad free YouTube AND YouTube Music – across desktop, mobile, chromecast. I know it's not Spotify, but it works well enough for me when I need it.

Adguard is the best adblocker. it blocks everything in every application(not just safari). It also blocks Youtube ads, no need to pay for youtube premium every month.

Another long time Wipr user on MacOS and iOS. I'm not really bothered about YT ads and I find all the others a bit heavy and clunky, especially Adguard which seems to be a favourite.

I found I was getting ads on YT in Safari a while back. ABP did the job for years and then stopped. I ended up with AdBlock Pro (paid version). It works on YT and has other features. Now, if only I could find a really good cookie pop-up blocker!

A alternative for youtube is the safari addon Dynamo from the Mac Appstore.
It does not skip the ad automatically, you have to press "E" on your keyboard.
Its works pretty well for me for youtube ads, but its not free.

That's because those companies colluded to not block those ads.

On Edge I can still use uBlock Origin. It blocks everything.

Thats Not true. And uses a lot of memory power
What's not true?

May not be the best in the eyes of everyone but it blocks Youtube ads and works also at the system level. So you can use any browser you want and it will block everything. uBlock Origin is the other one that is as good but it doesn't work in safari.

AdGuard doesn’t stop YouTube ads. They say the cannot do that.
