Aloha all,

I happened across this adapter in a box of random Apple dongles at my local university surplus store the other day. Not being sure what it was, I figured "Hey, 3 dollars isn't much..." Turns out it is THE fabled ADC to VGA Extractor made by Dr. Bott many, many years ago! Tested it on my Power Mac G5 currently running a DVI Aluminum 20" Cinema Display from the DVI port with a Radeon 9600 Pro. It ran perfectly right off the ADC port onto a second VGA monitor. Switched between "mirroring" and "extended" with zero issues. Now, I don't really NEED a second monitor for the G5, so I was wondering, if I don't decide to hang on to it, what this little guy could fetch me on eBay and the like? Still any interest or need for this item in this day and age?

Interested to hear your thoughts...

All ADC cards came also with a VGA or a DVI port as far as I can remember, so the only other real use for this dongle would be if either the DVI or VGA port were somehow damaged. It might be the perfect solution for someone's situation if they wanted to keep an ADC option but occasionally needed to use a non-Apple display.

@Malasada33 that is quite an adapter, quite a find! I’ve never seen anything like it. ADC to VGA. Wow. There are a lot of uses for VGA so I’m sure it is quite valuable :) thanks for sharing

Bought three of these a few years ago because I don’t like using ADC powered monitors.
Prefer DVI. [$35.00 each in 2019.] Don’t think I’ve ever seen a VGA version. (Until now.);)

Newer ADC cards can run two independent monitors. So, the ability to hook up two VGA displays via ADC-to-VGA and DVI-to-VGA adapters, or one DVI display directly plus one VGA display via ADC-to-VGA is nice to have. This is especially relevant if the DVI port is dual-link and taken up by a high-resolution LCD and you want to hook up a second monitor via VGA.
