add applications stack to dock

I have a documents & download stack on my dock

I've also seen an 'applications' stack on a dock
how do I achieve this??

Drag the Applications folder in to the dock next to the others.

hi - grab and drag it from where

i'm dragging it from Macintosh HD / applications

but it bounces away when I try to place it on the dock

(it will however stay on the desktop..)

As you're doing, from a Finder window drag the Applications folder down in to the dock - you must drag it over to the far right of the dock next to the other stacks, not with the applications. If you're unsure what I mean try and place it between the trash and the stack next to it.
