Yes, it can take up to 8GB of DDR3

It's slightly complicated though, but quite simple if you know how it's done.

And if you click on MacBook Pro 17" Early 2009. Yes I know it's the 17", but it should be the same on all new MacBook Pro's with the integrated battery, Apple just haven't updated the site yet.

And before anyone chimes in, yes it is user serviceable.
