It will only work well if the MBP's RAM is the same specifications as the new iMac.

Not at all. Before the post was edited, it stated a 2012 MacBook Pro and a 2014 iMac. They both use the same memory, PC3-12800 SODIMMs @ 1600Mhz with 204 pins. Thus, there is nothing wrong or incorrect with my post.
