Hi there

Need a little help. I currently rip all my new music into a folder call "New Rips" using a 3rd party app. If need be, I will then go through and edit the tags, rename the file, etc. I then copy the file into my music directory. Now, when I import those files into iTunes, I have to go and manually find each file or folder and import them. Sometimes, when I'm importing a large amount of music, I'll just wipe out my Library and import all the music again so I'll have all the music I just ripped. The problem with this method is that it wipes out my Playlist as well. I'm looking for something that will recognize when I add new files to my music directory that will add it to my Library in iTunes. Is there a setting in iTunes that I'm missing or is there a plugin I can install. I'm running Windows XP Pro with iTunes 7.5.0.20.

Just drag and drop the music files you want directly into itunes, and itunes will add the songs and organize the music directory for you. you can select multiple files using ctrl+click or shift+click. if you drag a folder containing music into itunes, itunes will add all the music in that folder automatically.

hope that helps!

Perhaps you could also work the process the other way around.

In other words, rip the music into iTunes, then go to View>View Options and make sure that "Date Added" is checked. You can then sort by date added, and simply select the group (using the method icecold mentioned - select the first song, then shift + click on the last one) and drag and drop into your "New Rips" folder.

Same issue

What if I don't remember exactly what songs are in the library or not? I should be able to do a quick update of my music folder and add any new files to the library instead of manually adding them.
I am really dumbfounded at this problem. Not only do I have to manually add them, but it is only allowing me to add 3 songs at once....one time it allowed me 4...maybe it's my PC. I just want to update my library with anything new that's been added to my music folder. I can't believe that this simple and common task cannot be done.
VERY F%&KING DISAPPOINTED......

It's a problem with iTunes.

Dumping it and going with a third party software is an option on Windows. Under Mac you're SOL - use scripts to trigger a re-import (as you can do in Windows as well using the likes of Autohotkey), but that sucks anyway.

devincco & kissdemon74,

While perhaps not ideal, there are some scripting solutions available.

A quick search on Doug's AppleScripts yielded a script to automate library additions for music folder files not yet imported by iTunes. In case it moves, it's called List Music Folder Files Not Added v2.0

A deeper look may provide an even better method.
