I already added a line and bought the phone. So tomorrow I'm going into a Verizon store with a hotspot to swap onto the voice line I created. Same deal from last year. Hopefully no issues.

It will be interesting what your store says, the Verizon corporate store I went to the manager claimed that she couldn't do what I was asking and that it wasn't possible which I'm sure is BS since it sounds like you can on the phone.

I did this. I think the key is to make the switch online. My details:

I have 3 smartphones and 1 ipad mini on my current share everything plan. I have an iPad 3 that was still on prepaid, so it wasn't on my share everything plan.

Purchased new 5c, created a new line. Came home and chose "replace device" and entered my iPad 3's details (EMEI.) Went immediately down from $40/mo to $10/mo. Switched new iPhone 5c with another smartphone already on the plan (Note 2) so my plan now STILL includes the three smartphones, but now 2 iPads. But instead of an extra $40/mo, it dropped to $10/mo.

Got an email from Verizon this morning confirming my changes, and when I check online at my plan details, it confirms the change as well.

Good luck!

Subsequently, your monthly rate went up approximately $10/mo to cover that new line. Correct?

Yes, it did. But I was able to cancel the prepaid plan on the iPad 3, which was $20/mo. So I'm ok with it going up $10/mo to share my data plan.

Never made it to the store, so I did the switch online today. However, it did require that I have a MiFi to activate on the line. Went without issue.

My Verizon Wireless -> Manage My Device -> Activate or Switch Device -> Select line -> Activating new device

They told me my SIM wasn't compatible so they are sending a free SIM replacement. Line went from 40/mo to 20/mo.

I did the same thing yesterday, except instead of them sending me one I just went to the Verizon store a few minutes away and was out within 5 minutes.

So you added a mifi on the line and that's works?

Has anyone done an ipad instead of the MiFi? I don't have a MiFi... just the LTE iPad.

Yeah but you could use any other device. I spoke to about 10 people at Verizon and they all said that I could use a tablet or mifi. I canceled the the MiFi contract, only had about a month left on it, and added the phone and was going to do the swap on the website. The only thing was that the SIM card didn't work since I terminated the contract so instead of waiting on them to send me one in the mail I went to the Verizon store a few minutes away and they did the swap right in the store. Took ~5 minutes.

I went with MiFi because there are some instances where I need to tether and don't want to drain my phone battery plus i'll use it so i can do voice+data at the same time when I'm not on wifi.

Does this still work?

Can you still add a new line on Verizon to get the discounted price and after its activated switch the line to an iPad and then use the iphone on another number? Or has verizon wised up and blocked this?

Is this still possible? Want to order an iPhone the switch to a different line and out a tablet on. So instead of paying 40 extra only 10? Can anyone confirm
