Adding an iPhone to a family plan

My parents already have a family plan with 2 phones with AT&T. I'm switching from Verizon to AT&T, and was planning on just adding myself onto their family plan. Would I be eligible for the subsidized price (and just add the data and text plan on top of the family account)? Or would I have to add a whole new account to be eligible?
