Adding an MP3 to Shared Playlist

Hi!

I have a playlist shared with a friend (who also has Apple Music) that we both enjoy quite a bit. It has all Apple Music songs. Yesterday, I added a personal MP3 song I own to it, which synced instantly between my devices, but it still hasn't shown up on his. Is it possible for him to have it on the playlist as well? Is there something additional I have to do?
