Adding captions over videos in iMovie. Can you help?

This is a really basic question.

I am trying to add captions OVER video clips in iMovie. How do I add them to my movie without them playing over a black screen? BTW, I do have the "over black" box unchecked. I tried dragging the title over the clip I want it to play on, but it just adds it before or after the clip, and plays over a black screen.

Move the play head thing back to the start of the clip you want to insert it over. iirc that makes it work.
