Adding Gmail Account to Outlook 365 on M1 Macbook Air

Has anybody managed to get a Gmail account added to Outlook 365 on a Macbook Air M1?

I add the Email account, and it opens up a browser to enter my Gmail user name and password. After that is accepted, it goes back to Outlook 365, but starts the whole process again. 🙁

I've done this countless time on other Macs, but this is the first time on an M1.

I can get it to work if I try and set it up an IMAP account, but it doesn't sync the calendars when using that method.

Google isn't giving any clues.

Working on my Office 365 on my M1 Air. Both mail and calendar work.

Thanks. Maybe something to do with the Outlook version (I'm on the "slow track" / "preview"). I'll wait for the next version and see if that fixes it.

As it works on Beta channel with both email and calendar fully functional, it's more than likely you've got a configuration error.
 
Yep. Although I've no idea what the configuration error would be. This is a brand new Macbook Air, and Office 365 was the first thing I installed, so there's not much I could have done wrong.

I've tried multiple Gmail accounts, and they all have the same issue.
 
It looks like it may have been an issue with the Microsoft authentication service. I've just tried again, and it's now working (for all accounts).

I've not changed anything on my side that I can think of.

Anyway, that's the only issue I'd got with the new Mac - so I'm happy now 🙂
 
I was running into the same issue today and managed to find a fix that worked instantaneously once I tried it. I had been using Safari as well as the new Chromium Edge for the authentication, but when neither of those would work, I decided to download and install regular Chrome and try it there. Once I was signed into the browser with the gmail account I intended to use, I set Chrome as default and tried adding it again to Outlook. I went through immediately and was added to Outlook. I don't know if the real solution was either a) the fact that it was Chrome, b) that it was a completely fresh install so there were no potential cache or cookie related issues to get in the way. B seems like the most likely reason but for me this is also a very recent install; I've only had the M1 since this past Thursday. I also tested it with an alternate gmail account, not the one I had used to sign into the browser with, and it also worked on the first try using Chrome.

I hope that helps, if anyone is still struggling with this.
 
I've setup a couple of MacBook's and managed to get the Gsuite account added with 2 different methods on 2 different M1 2020 MacBook Pros

Method 1:
I went into 'Manage third-party access' under myaccount.google.com and removed 'Microsoft apps& services' and then I tried to go through adding the account again and it went through somehow.

Method 2:
Turning on Less secure apps (last ditch attempt , but managed to add the email account somehow )

I definitely do think there's an authentication issue that needs sorting though

Are you in the "new" interface"? If so, you could try a manual add - when the Outlook box comes up to add the gmail account, in the upper right corner is a link that says something like "manually add account details" (I forget the exact wording). This link doesn't appear if using the "old" interface.

The accounts are (incoming) imap.gmail.com and (outgoing) smtp.gmail.com
 
Anyone else still having issues here? Tried all of the above methods, only one that worked was manually adding the email as per Rafterman's advice, but then I don't have access to my google calendar through outlook. Wonder if this has something to do still with google drive M1 support in the backend somehow (it does mention on the login page that Microsoft requests access to gdrive). Getting very frustrated......

I got something to work, have had the same issue...

Outlook Version: 16.47.21030701
In New Mode

I tried it with both safari and Chrome for M1, Worked in both

When you go to add the account under the "+" and "Add Account"...
You type in your @gmail or whatever assoc with google account, then click "Continue".
On the next screen DONT click Continue... Click "Sync Directly with Google".
It will then take to the AUTH page in the web browser.. continue like normal...
At that point it added it for me instead of the loop it was in.

First, make sure that the Outlook app has installed the latest update.

After that, quit Outlook and other Office apps.

1. Go to KeyChain Access from your Utilities folder.

2. Under "Login", Search "Gmail/Google" then select All Items in there and delete it. (don't worry it's already saved in your iCloud).

3. Launch Outlook and try adding Gmail in Outlook again.

Sorry to jump in, but I have always wondered this but have been afraid to try it. When a user sets up Outlook365 to use Gmail account, does it pull all the messages in the Inbox and folders with messages down to Office365, deleting what is on the server, or does it leave them there and sync between the two as work is done on Office 365?

Your Gmail still lists all your message. As they are read, moved, etc. in Office365 their status changes.

So for the Gmail login issues . It seems to be happening on the "old" outlook view one. It seems to be fine on the "new" outlook look AFAIK.

But I think I fixed mine by logging out of my google on chrome. Like both the chrome app and the google.com which is logged in. Then it worked.
