Okay, say I wanted to add more memory to the new iMac G5 Intel. What's the difference between these two because they're both $100 to add:

1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2X512

and

1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 1X1GB

What's the point in them doing that and which one make more sense to add on? 😕 Thanks so much.

The first is 2 512Mb sticks for a total 1024Mb which requires 2 free RAM slots. The second is a single 1024Mb stick and requires a single slot.

The iMac only has 2 slots.

Basically it's all about future expandability vs speed now. The single stick offers a free slot for the future, but 2 matched sticks run in dual channel mode which offers more memory bandwidth.

Probably. Unless you think you'll never want more than 1Gb in which case the additional bandwidth might be nice.
