Adding personal music to library (via cloud)

So I tried adding a cd to my library and half the songs showed up and the a few are greyed out and cannot be played?

its my understanding that if it can't find it in the Apple library it will just upload the whole disk to my cloud. So what happened?

Did you delete it afterwards? The unlicensed tracks must remain in at least one device library for them to be available through AM cloud library.

Are you sure about that? I bought Adele's 25 album and uploaded it to my iTunes in the cloud via iTunes. I then removed the downloads (I don't keep any tracks locally on my computer) and it's still available to all my devices

Did you purchase it through iTunes? I did the same with Adele. However, many songs on the Across The Universe soundtrack were greyed out when I deleted the local files I had imported to iTunes from CD. Same with an old Exchange album. I think it is a case that if Apple does not have record of you having a license (through purchase) of a song, they will restrict it from streaming.

It could also be that the files never fully uploaded to the cloud. I've seen that happen too, despite an indicator that the upload process has been completed.

No, I bought it from Google Play, downloaded it then added it to iTunes. I've also go music that was originally ripped from CD, including things that don't exist on iTunes such as concerts from my Daughter's school and while I do have backups of these locally, they don't exist locally in any iTunes library (all my local media is served by Plex and the only thing I use iTunes for is adding music I don't buy through iTunes to my music library)

this is a local band so its not on Itunes at all (or anywhere for that matter).

Interesting. Anytime I delete a local file from my library, it will disappear from the iCloud library if it isn't available in AM.

You don't have iTunes Match, correct? Trying to figure this out.

No, no iTunes Match. When you say you delete a local file, do you mean you select remove download or actually delete it?

Actually delete it. I was trying to regain space on my Mac, figuring the tracks were available from AM iCloud Library now, but they became greyed out.

To be truthful, this is the one thing that Google Music gets right - the online library is there regardless as to whether you have a local copy or not after upload. It actually saved me after a hard drive crash.

I think that's where you're going wrong, then - if you "Remove Download" rather than Delete it will remove the file from your hard disk but leave the track in the music library

I can see the track in my iCloud library, but is is greyed out.

To add even more to this nonsense, I just enabled AM/iCloud library on my iMac in my vacation home. None of the songs that were uploaded to ICML are available for streaming - greyed out. This is despite them being local files on both my home computer and my phone. This is so annoying.
