I've seen this often mentioned for setups on the quad core Mini. Installing a SSD and using that as a boot drive/OS/Programs hard drive while leaving the existing 1TB spinner in there for file storage.

What are the necessary steps to do this in the OS once you have put the added drive into the mini? I would like to store my iTunes library, all photos, and office files on the HDD and leave the SSD for OS/programs. I can't find a guide on this anywhere.

I'm no real expert but I've basically done just that.

What I did was running from a brand new Mini so if you have an existing setup it might be perhaps different.

1 - Got the system up and running on the original drive.
2 - Installed the SSD and cloned the original drive to it using Carbon Copy, then set the SSD as the boot drive.
3 - Once sure all was working, formatted the original 1TB drive and rebooted again to make sure all still working.
4 - Copied the Home folder from the SSD to the now-blank 1TB.
5 - Changed the location of the home folder in System Prefs\Accounts\Advanced to point to the new location on the 1TB drive.
6 - Rebooted and deleted the old home folder from the SSD.
7 - Started copying stuff in from an external drive (was migrating from a Windows machine).

So far, so good, but I've not started using it in anger yet.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks for the input.

I'm in the same boat, migrating from Windoze to Mac OS. I'm used to running dual drives on the MS platform in this fashion. Definitely a learning process all the way around.
