I know there was a special press conference before the release of the iPhone that introduced new features not mentioned at the keynote.

Is the same still a possibility for the iPad at this point even after the announcement of the release date (like widgets, multitasking, camera, etc, etc.)?

No... it was a general question of whether or not there is still a possibility of introducing new features before launch in a special press conference like they did w/ the iPhone.

It does seem possible; however, I wouldn't count on it. IMO, the iPad's that were on display after the keynote had many bugs and some things just didn't work. These were most likely rushed and put together to be ready for the keynote. I would bet that the missing apps weren't there due to not being ready....or waiting to appear in a dashboard like interface. :D

Perhaps we'll get an update in June at least?

I got the iTouch 1g and many of the apps included on the iPhone were missing until an OS update. If I remember right they were stocks, maps and maybe weather (memory leak). Hopefully some of the apps missing on the iPad will be included in a later update??? Of course, a lot of those type of apps are now available via 2nd party venders.

I don't know ... I'd say "probably not" to camera, "no, but..." to multitasking, and "maybe" to widgets.

We know that iPhone OS does allow a certain level of multitasking already -- for instance, you can play music while running another app, and the OS will do things like check for mail in the background. It seems to me this limited kind of multitasking could be extended to widgets for simple stuff like weather, clock, and so forth.

All the iPad needs is a built-in stand, a capacitive stylus, and a clip-on camera that can use the dock port or bluetooth. Throw it all in the box and everyone's wishes will be granted. Of course then Apple will have to come up with some other features you want buy don't need to upsale you next year.

Wouldn’t they need to really do any hardware announcements before the pre-order in 4 days time?

Sure the software is not big deal as this can just be a upgrade option when it syncs.

Not necessarily, when I pre-ordered my original MBP I ordered the 1.66 processor which was upgraded to the 1.83 processor after I ordered. Apple never even sold the MBP with the 1.66 processor they had originally intended to sell as the base model Intel MBP.
