thats the bottom you're looking at - the cross members slide between the studs on the base of the odd compartment and the lock engages there as well i think
Like I said, it's been awhile since I've had one.

So what about the top then?
I'd need my hands on one to see it and get measurments, but there's no one around me I can get access to a MP (any year). :(

from memory the folded over edges you can see in the picture run the same width all the way along.

the one in the foreground, you can just see the corner of the folded over edge.

the rest is open.
It could work then (assuming once the 2x drives on an X Swing were attached, could be stuffed back into it's space).

If it doesn't stick up that much, tilting could get it back in it's hole, especially since the HDD's aren't as wide as the ODD's/mount. :D

i'd go get mine and check, but it's in box in the loft right now and i can't be bothered with the hassle - getting a ladder, rooting around, getting dusty you know how it goes.....
Understandable. :) I'm not big on digging in attic space myself (tall, and I don't like being hunched over while trying to stay on the rafters to keep from falling through the drywall).

I don't consider that open, as it has the cross members on top (structural integrity and mounting points). But I didn't recall it appearing that open (amount of missing metal compared to essentially a solid sheet ).

The cage in the post above is upside-down. Have a look at this one:

EDIT: Sorry, too slow...
