address book birthday in SL

whenever i add the birthday field under templates, then go to edit a contact it only lets me enter the month and year, so their birthday is always the 1st of the month because the field is not there.....

has anyone else got this problem

I don't know about adding them in address book personally I add them in my contacts on my iPhone and sync them to my computer via mobile me or iTunes.

No, I don't have that problem here. 10.6.1 on a MacBook Unibody. Just created a new card and tried editing an old one, in both cases showed me the mm/dd/yyyy format. Are you using that format or a different date format? Might be significant here.
