Hello, new to Mac so a newbie. Pulled across a long list of recipients with their addresses from an email into addressbook; now all previous contacts lost (including that list), beachball whirls for ages, Macbook warms +++. Addressbook hangs. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and situation remains. No idea how to undo whatever I've done - help please!!

There should be a folder on your Home Library called Application Support. Within this folder is another called Address Book. Drag AddressBook.data to the Desktop and rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and then see if it opens properly. :)

Hello down under, many thanks, did the trick. Need to learn much about this OS, seems quick to fix when you know how, but a little bit of a learning curve for those who have toiled with windows so long.
    Cheers

No worries mate. It's a very intuitively organised operating system so just ask yourself how something should be done and chances are, that's how it is done. Welcome to Macs. :)
