Hi there,

Got my new magic trackpad, its amazing! I have one thing that I would like a bit more control over...

When you do a 3 finger drag, it has a delay afterwards to help you correct your selection if you need to. This is a brilliant usability function and I use it often. But I would really like to be able to adjust how long this delay is. It's about a second at the moment, it would be awesome if it was halved.

Anyone know where you could do this in the terminal?

Its most annoying when you select some text, then try to copy it with apple-c, and it doesn't let you do it immediately.

bump

I, too, would like to know the answer to this. I would really love the delay to be gone entirely as I'm not sure why there is one in the first place.

Hey! I don't think this is possible...
But if you do a click (or tap if tap to click is enabled) just after having done your selection the system automatically ends waiting for you continuing to select. When your a bit used to it works like a charm!

Believe me you need the time gap when you move icons from on end of your desktop to the other, so it wouldn't be good to change it anyway. ;)

Me too!

I realize this is an old thread, but I just got a Magic Trackpad and this delay is the one thing about it I don't like. Interested to know if anyone can find a solution.

Any one? Please, i hate this delay. when every you drag something with alt key to duplicate and release the alt key it will move the item instead of duplicating it, because of this delay, so you have to wait with the alt key also. and also when using it for music filters and so, you can't be on the rhythm.

Yeah, that delay has been driving my crazy as well... though, actually, I only have significant problems with it in Logic Pro, when dragging regions or adjusting automation breakpoints. I understand that the delay is there for Finder operations, where it can be handy as a way to avoid losing your selection when dragging long distances—i.e., if you run out of trackpad space, you can jump back and take a new swipe at it without losing the object you're "holding."

I did find a hint on StackExchange which pointed out that you could quickly tap at the end of the drag to release. It's not ideal, but it does avoid the delay. As a refinement of this, I've noticed that in Logic Pro you can actually just tap one finger to release the drag. So, for example, if you're dragging an automation point, and you get the precise value you want, you can just tap your index finger to release the drag and "set" that value. It's more accurate, imho, than trying to make a clean three-finger release.
