Has anyone found this possible and if I’m missing something? You can change media volume on the watch in now playing but not for a phone call? Would be especially useful while on AirPods and the phone is tucked away somewhere.

Ok after some testing this is partially working. If I answer on the watch, I don’t get volume control on the watch straight away. If I switch to the iPhone then back to the watch mid-call, I can use the crown to adjust the volume. Hmm…

Right, just had a real-world test when a phone call came through. I answered it on my watch and the digital crown allowed me to change the volume on the fly. I didn’t have to switch to and from the phone for it to work.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll have to play around some more. This has been an issue for a couple years for me but was just reminded again the other day when I answered on my watch and need to adjust the volume from it. Lol

I did not have my AirPods connected at the time. You need to give that a go I think.
Yeah I think that’s the issue. The fact that the call is being routed to the AirPods, even though the call was picked up by the watch, leads me to believe that the watch is just a middle man for answering but the call is still coming from the phone. So once the call is answered, the connection is being established between AirPods and phone. Which is why volume must be adjusted on the phone. Hard to explain in words but hope that makes sense lol. Thanks again for the help.

You’re welcome.

I think you are probably on to something. And of course we know that the digital crown controls the volume of the AirPods even though the audio is actually coming from the phone rather than the watch. So it looks as though there is some kind of audio routing issue as you say.

Im gonna keep playing with it and trying different scenarios of answering and initiating a call. When the call is active, all I can do on the watch is end it. If I find the cause, maybe I can find a workaround. It just works, am I right? Lol

I know when on exercise mode when listening to music streaming to my headphones I swipe to right on watch face and shows me volume setting than use crown to adjust volume.

Yep, controlling media volume on my watch, for any Airplay device with the Digital Crown works great. It’s phone call volume with the watch that I can’t get to work. If I’m on an active call that I answered with my AirPods or watch while my phone is in my pocket, I have to dig out the phone to adjust the volume of the phone call. Was hoping I’d be able to just spin the crown to raise or lower volume while on the active call screen but I’m getting no such luck.

It’s been a perennial problem. I think you’re on to something stating how the watch is the middle man only.

I have a hard time believing this type of issue slipped past QC, which means it’s deliberate, and provides further evidence for the ridiculous quality of the OSs these days, IMO. ?
