I don't see how they are trying to save face with this move... it's just a smart business move now and for the future (when there are mutliple tablet platforms).

Nothing personal here, but the Wired app seems a hastily scrapped together solution. I certainly hope it amounts to more than XML and web-like tables. That sounds like saving face to me. Maybe when they offer a real solution rather than what sounds like 1990s web design, I'll consider it smart.

Glad I didn't cave for CS5 earlier this week. Think I'll just forget about Adobe for a while.

Just found this...

Just wrong. Basically, any third party development app that isn't objective C/Apple's is prohibited.

Apple's banning of Adobe flash products (and other third party environments) from the iphone are two and distinctive things.

1. Flash content (video, vectors, web stuff) running in a browser or other other app that pulls in separate content.

2. Apps that aren't "flash" but happened to be developed using Adobe's Flash software. In fact, these apps may have have none of the traditional flash content.

THESE ARE TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS PEOPLE. Steve Jobs cites different reasons for each situation.

You are absolutely correct and yet many people don't understand it, continuing to get it all mixed up.

But focusing on app development, I still don't see how using InDesign to create iPad apps is any different than using Flash to create iPhone and iPad apps.

Jobs rationale for this restriction was so that Apple doesn't become dependent on third party developers to keep their software development tools updated to take advantage of all the features in the iPhone OS as they become available. For example, if the OS provided a new API and Flash CS5 didn't get updated to take advantage of the new API, then developers using Flash couldn't implement these new features.

So how is that any different now that we're talking about InDesign instead of Flash? The only thing I can think of is that InDesign is just creating documents that are imported into the SDK the same as any external files are using now such as text files or images, etc. ?
