I love the new subscription program. As a photographer, the only two programs I use are Lightroom and Photoshop and now that those two programs are only $20 a month it's a win win for me. That's $240 a year for both Lightroom and Photoshop with all the updates and the latests software. I was easily spending double that before with having to pay for the software AND the upgrades that always came out. I can understand how it would be bad for someone who needs more than these two pieces of software, but for me it works and I'm glad they did it.

Hopefully in the future they can offer various packages for different needs, like a video package similar to the photography package they currently offer.

Meanwhile, whenever I'm using my older Mac running CS3, I am still perfectly productive. WAY too little has improved in those many years to justify my monthly bill.

Adobe has signed their own software's death sentence. It's just a matter of time... there are sharks in the water developing more relevant and [soon enough] better products and eventually Adobe's trump card of "you have to use our software because it's the only way to read our formats" will matter less and less. The thing they're holding on to right now is brand recognition ("photoshopping" has become an improper noun like "Kleenex") and format lock-in.

I myself am sitting on a pre-cloud license until I can't bear it anymore or until a real alternative emerges... which it will in time. I don't see any reason to "upgrade" soon to CC.

This is why I love it. I don't get all the hate. It's cheaper to go with CC than it is to upgrade every few years when you break down the costs.

I have the full creative suite and its $30 on promo but goes to $50 after a year (which is almost up). I will be cancelling since I was just giving it a try for a year and have CS5 to use but honestly its a great deal in my opinion. If they did a two app bundle for $25 a month I'd be on in a heartbeat.

Or just find Office 2008 on the ground and install it like I did. It's a word processor. Really, they've only made it worse if anything in the newer versions.

I have it for free, on a PC, through work.

----------

Existing CS3–CS6 users get to sign up for $30/month for the first year.

That's a little better, in my opinion.

oh, wasn't aware.. that does help

I think the 3D printing part is a cool idea. This way, if you create a really cool 3D object, you'll have something to show for it if your cloud subscription stops

I just tried the 3D printing tool, its fantastic! I can finally get my little UFO printed. Even though my mesh passed all mesh tests I could throw at it and opened in every 3D app I have (Maya, Modo, Houdini, ZBrush) Shapeways said it had errors (even though I used the same utility they do and it showed no errors).

I tried using Photoshop and it generates a watertight mesh around your mesh and it generated a file that Shapeways accepted and as long as the one piece isn't too thin it'll get printed :D

*One thing, it may look like the mesh utility freezes but it just takes some time to calculate so if you see it paused don't close it!

Bloatware

Stop adding half-baked features to current programs and make full-featured, distinct programs for each task.

That tip is applicable to all companies, not just Adobe.

awesome. now just let me buy an affordable 3D printer to go along with my $99 subscription :roll eyes:

i think you can open .psd in pixelmator.

Too bad it's Creative Cloud. Seriously, all we want is to have Photoshop.app on the hard drive.

I hate creative cloud, but to clarify for those who might read this wrong, the app IS on the hard drive like it always was, and not running from a server in a browser somewhere else.

Why does everyone complain...it makes it affordable ...photoshop cs6 is $699 if used professionally or Creative Suite 6 Master Collection for $1599 or regular $2599....sure you own but after a year two you will most likely want to upgrade if your in the biz of creating....so in 4years you pay $1599 regular $2599 plus upgrade fee...with subscription its 2400 after 4 years...you always are current

I don't have an issue with what was added over the last few updates. Due to the size and need to maintain consistency across operating systems as well as run on a variety of hardware cycle budgets, it is probably not cheap to maintain. There are a lot of things though that are designed using very old paradigms. They've rewritten some tools, but there are so many damn things that contain partial redundancy to compensate for some of the ways people use the software. For example a lot of the masking and auto-masking tools are limited by the nature of rasterized content, yet they remain relevant because not everyone works with the accuracy of a large cintiq tablet.

Or you stick with Photoshop CS6 and get a plug-in. It's still yours, it's paid for, and if you don't use it this month, you don't have to pay to keep it active.

That is, until Adobe manages to get in with Apple and/or Microsoft, to issue an OS update that just happens to break the popular application versions that are not the ones they currently offer.

Imagine that.

I agree. $20 for one app... $40 for two apps... or $50 for 37 apps.

There needs to be some middle ground there.

I primarily use Photoshop and Premiere Pro. I wish they had a $35 subscription package like the old suites: Production Premium, Design Premium, etc.

Instead... I'm paying $50 a month for what is basically the old Master Collection. Every Adobe app.

There are times I need to open an Illustrator file someone sends me... or edit a PDF with Acrobat. So it's not a total waste.

I don't have a problem with paying a subscription... and I love the updates. I just wish there was a cheaper tier.

Well if you already owned Photoshop CS3 or later, you did qualify for the $10 a month offer for Photoshop and Lightroom. I used to pay $300 or so for upgrades every some 18 months, so this actually ends up cheaper.

Not sure if you guys are aware, there's a great little app that took off in Kickstarter called Macaw, hopefully this will gain some serious traction and take some customers away from Adobe.

I mean, this is a team of 2 people and their software is making Adobe apps look like child's play.

perspective warp.. mind blown!!

i wonder what photoshop will be like in 10 years... i already can't trust any image i see on the web. very interesting. could only imagine the kind of math that goes into 'perspective warp'

*mind warp*

Macaw looks great... but it's just a web design tool.

It won't take people away from Photoshop, Illustrator, etc...

Interestingly... Adobe is coming out with their own web design tool: Edge Reflow

Yea I know they have Edge reflow, but it pales in comparison to Macaw.

I just hope Adobe doesn't buy them out or assimilate them into their crappy Edge suite.
