I've been transferring and reading PDFs on my iPad for years, which has worked fine. They're all in the "iBooks" app neatly categorized, so when I want to read a book I just go to that app and it's there.

Now I've just purchased my first DRM protected ebook through an online bookstore which, after some trial and error and online searching figured out I needed to open that small file I received with Adobe's Digital Editions app on my Mac. The book's there, but it seems a cumbersom way to read, and I have yet to figure out a way to transfer it over to my iPad. Had I known beforehand the file was protected I would probably not have bought it, with all the hassle.

Is there a way to bring it over to the "iBooks" app on my iPad through iTunes on my Mac, or some other way?

Unfortunately iBooks doesn't support Adobe DRM for ebook.

Two altenative apps are Bluefire or Adobe's own Digital Editions. Both work reasonable well on both iPhone and iPad. These apps can download and authenticate ebooks similarly to how you did it your mac.

iBooks doesn't support Adobe DRM. It still has a long way to go.

What a hassle! I prefer not to have my files spread all over different apps -makes it very confusing when looking for a certain book.
Failing that, is there a way to remove DRM from the book?

There might be but I don't think that discussion is allowed on MacRumors.

I understand.
I asked thinking it would be OK as long as it was for transferring between the owner's various devices, much like ripping a purchased DVD in order to watch it as an MP4 on your Mac or iPad.

I don't think detailed discussions on removing DRM and ripping DVDs is allowed either.

Audio CD is okay since that has no DRM.

OK, I think my leasson learnt is to double check if the next ebook I purchase is DRM protected or not, so I don't get into similar problems again.
Until then I'll just have to read this one in a different app as suggested earlier (Bluefire or Adobe Digital Editions on the iPad).
