Here come the "This is why subscription service sucks" posts...

Either way, bummer. :/

Not really. The subscription service sucks for important reasons even if Adobe can protect customers' data. The fact that it cannot protect the data just makes CC a little worse.

Why, because they're somehow unwarranted?

How exactly do you obtain Adobe products today without giving them your CC number? You can't. There is no box to buy (other then old copies of CS6). It's all digital downloads straight through Adobe's decrepit system.

When Adobe switched to CC, they effectively forced anyone who wants or needs to use their software to have a credit card. How does this not suck? In what warped universe are Adobe's actions somehow validated and/or even warranted?

And yet there's no longer any way to buy Lightroom upgrades except online. Maybe Adobe should be rolling out Secure Cloud instead of Creative Cloud.

Prepaid credit cards for the win.

I've seen a number of cases where a prepaid credit card won't work for online sales. Usually related to vendors who use the "Verified by Visa" program, but also online vendors who do address verification steps, and even gas stations that do zip code verification at the pump.

I bet Adobe did it themselves and they'll double charge people and hope many don't notice the charge and if they do - blame the hackers.

/sarcasm

Lookin' good Adobe. Keeping credit card numbers in a separate database should really be mandatory, so database dumps don't contain the CC numbers.

Also, shouldn't this be on the front page?

Another reason for me to stick with CS6, rather than CC, shame on you Adobe. Profit before security doesn't pay off!

Unless you live off the grid in the woods and keep whatever money you have under the mattress your personal and financial info is on servers connected to the Internet and thus are susceptible to getting hacked.

Corporate......

and customer data are sensitive and a valuable asset to every company. Good to know Adobe is working to fix the issue and I also praise Adobe for implementing measures to help and give assurance to their customers. The stolen code can be converted in "The Cheapo Suite", I guess......and that is very high level of damage for a company, that invest a good deal of resources to develop that code.

Taking the role of a conspiration theoricist, how many people pissed off by Adobe because the new "subscription" service implemented in the new CC Suite can be behind this hacker attack.....?...............

:):apple:

Hmmm.... I wonder if there's a business model where we can get paid again and again forever whether we fix bugs or not, and EVEN if our updates are not very useful ones. One where we're under NO pressure to make our software great, because it won't affect our income. One where we can be paid for apps we let stagnate, alongside the ones we still work on. One where our customers' own creative work is held to monthly ransom, ready for us to lock them out at any time. One where we load their machines with layers of buggy crapware and updaters. And one where we keep ALL our users' credit card numbers on file forever!

I think I have an idea!

Signed in to thumb this up.

I used to like Adobe a lot, really.
Now I think they are among the worst crooks around.

They hooked everyone up and now they go the SaaS route to keep everyone paying no matter what. But I'll stop explaining what you did so well. (can't beat sarcasm heh)

Nah, it's just one of the reasons why subscription service sucks. :)

Why is it they don't sell through the Mac App Store?

That's easy. They want $600 for Photoshop, and the whole suite for what, a couple grand? That's not going to work on the app store.

Glad to have Pixelmator for very much cheaper. That seemed like a foolish thing a couple of years ago, but it's getting close enough now to take stock of what exactly the extra $550 is about.

Just got the e-mail. They're sending me another one. :(

We also recommend that you monitor your account for incidents of fraud and identity theft, including regularly reviewing your account statements and monitoring credit reports. If you discover any suspicious or unusual activity on your account or suspect identity theft or fraud, you should report it immediately to your bank. You will be receiving a letter from us shortly that provides more information on this matter.

Out of curiosity, why not? Adobe could sell Photoshop for $600 on the Mac App Store, and the rest of their apps can be sold for whatever each component normally sells for too. Just like Apple does with their apps, iPhoto, Pages, etc. (which used to be part of iLife and iWork back in the day).

If Autodesk can sell stuff like AutoCAD LT for $900 or so, it seems like the App Store would work for Adobe too, as long as none of the individual apps cost more than $1,000.

Agreed that Pixelmator and similar apps make Photoshop a difficult value proposition unless you really really need all of Photoshop's features.

The conspiracy side of me thinks that this is all a ruse. They will now have an excuse to remove access to all the old downloadable applications before subscriptions came to be.

Maybe it's just that I don't trust them and their snake oil ways.

How long until we see "Account hacking insurance" being pushed everywhere :p

"Have you had your online account compromised, then call claims direct now. Our legally trained professionals will help you get the compensation you deserve. We'll hunt down the hacker and supply them to you for a good beating, and we'll even re-encrypt your password...free of charge!"
